Pre-Vacation Checklist

pre-vacation check for your home

It’s time for summer vacation! Whether you plan on leaving home for a few weeks or just for a weekend getaway, there’s a lot of preparation you’ll need to do for your home.

Follow these tips to make sure that you’re not wasting energy, losing money, or causing damage while you’re away on your relaxing vacation.

Adjust Your Thermostat

Increase the temperature on your thermostat to about 78 to 80 degrees. There’s no need to keep an empty house cool and comfortable, but you also don’t want to turn the AC off entirely as this will cause a different kind of energy waste when you get home from your relaxing vacation.

Windows

Don’t forget to close the windows and blinds! This will save you in case of a surprise storm, but it will also keep the temperature inside of your home from fluctuating.

Losing the blinds and curtains will keep nosey neighbors from being able to peer into your home while you’re away. It could also stop sinister passersby from knowing you’re not around, deterring them from breaking in. This is most important on the lower floors of your home.

Unplug Appliances

If you’re like us, then you leave your coffee maker, toaster, air fryer, tea kettle, and every other appliance on the kitchen counter and plugged in ready for use. However, this is a massive waste of electricity and an opportunity for a house fire to start.

Make sure to take the time to walk around your home and unplug any unnecessary appliances and electronics.
